MDMA (Ecstasy) Charges in Plano, Texas

Have you recently been accused of being under the influence of MDMA, which is also known as “Molly” or “Ecstasy”? If so, do you know much about the drug you allegedly took and what the penalties are in Texas? Since most people don’t know a whole lot about MDMA and the consequences of a drug conviction for this particular substance, we thought we’d shed light on the subject by dedicating a blog post to it.

What is MDMA? It’s a synthetic drug that alters a person’s awareness about their surroundings. As a result, the person’s mood and perceptions are altered. Chemically, MDMA is similar to hallucinogens and stimulants. It’s known for making someone feel emotional warmth, enhanced pleasure, and more energy. The drug can also distort a person’s sensory and time perception.

It Was Popular in Nightclubs

At first, MDMA was very popular in the nightclub scene. People loved to take it in the club or when they were at an all-night dance party or “rave.” However, the drug is no longer seen in nightclubs more than anywhere else. People from all over take the drug and they don’t necessarily go to nightclubs at all. They may take it while camping, while out in the middle of the dessert partying with friends, before a romantic evening with a spouse, or while attending a regular house party with friends.

According to drugabuse.gov, MDMA lasts between 3 and 6 hours, though it’s common for people to take a second dose when the effects of the first dose begin to wear off. When someone uses Molly, they may experience irritability, impulsiveness, aggression, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, memory problems, a decreased appetite and less interest or pleasure in sex.

Possession of Molly or ecstasy is prosecuted as a state jail felony or a felony of the first, second, or third degree in Texas. The seriousness of the charge depends on the amount and what you meant to do with the drug. The least serious offense, a state jail felony, is punishable up to 2 years behind bars, or a maximum $10,000 fine, or a fine and imprisonment.
